87 asc mislabeled

I checked the VIN. It's a REAL ascMcLaren !!

Why would you think it wasnt an ASC? Just curious.

I am surprised that I'd even have to explain that !

All the way thru (in 4 different places) it's called a "Ford Mustang" with no mention of it being an ascMcLaren, nor a McLaren conversion nor an ASC conversion or the like. The seller does say:

"" Has a Mclaren convertable top. ""

Referring to the roof, but any / all ascMcLaren identifacation (i.e. emblems) have seemingly been removed, which caused doubt in my mind, especially after viewing the leading picture, shot from the front, with a blue oval "FORD"
emblem, that was initially omitted at Dearborn when the car was originally made, that some owner affixed at a later date. Prior to scanning down to see the other (so-so) pictures, I went to check the VIN as posted on Page 1. I then saw that the VIN was on the ascMcLaren built listing, thereby making it a true example. (To a point). To a point, because all of the identifying ornamentation that an ascMclaren comes with, is therein missing!

Correct Wheels
Taillight Overlays
Front "grille" area overlay with ascMcLaren nomenclature die cut into it.

It's too "bright" to be "Candy Red Metallic" and it's too dark to be "ascMcLaren Red" ... a.k.a. "Guards Red" ~ so there is a good chance that it's also been repainted the 1988 Mustang red, which it does look like.

I guess you missunderstood me Sandy. As I said "why would you think it wasnt an ASC?" In otherwords to me it looks like an ASC, why would anyone think it is not?

I can tell its a McLaren, who would go to the trouble to rake back the windsheild 10 more degrees, and put on the custom top that requires custom fabrication to the rear fenders and everything else.

Its simple, someone (who is void of having a clue) thought that it would look better with cheap looking 5 star rims, a ford logo in the grille, black side mirrors, etc.

I'll bet the interior is in rough shape.......

Which is exactly what I was thinking when I saw the car. I never trust what an add says especially on Ebay were 3rd parties sell vehicles for the owner. First thing I do is make my own observation then read the add for entertainment. I loved it when Sandy would play the game whats wrong with this picture of ASC cars for sale on the web. This car is so obviously an ASC. It reminds me of something. Not to long ago some of you might remember the Mustang on Ebay were the guy was trying to pass a regular convertible Mustang off as an ASC McLaren. He swapped VIN plates and some emblems on a regular GT. This case we have an ASC posing as a regular vert Mustang. God only knows why. Unless he is using reverse psych making someone think the owner doesnt know what he has, henceforth the buyer is getting a steal of a deal. Also it's confusing that he starts price at $4k with the reserve not yet met and then answers someones question that he is looking to get $4k. I would beware with the seller having no feedback and just joined Ebay less then 30 days ago.

Ya.......I recall playing "What's wrong with this McLaren" ~ fun .... but it got ME in alot of trouble! People don't like to see IN PRINT, what's wrong with their car, ESPECIALLY if the are trying to unload (sorry....SELL it on e-bay)

Also, there are so few that are non altered, non customized, and do not have incorrect parts on them, that is just got easier to jump up & down on the rare occasion that one turned up PERFECT !
That's why I like Mike's coupe so much. All of his aftermarket features lurk under the hood. Short of the wheels, she appears bone stock.

I musta missed it, but there must be a unwritten law that no ascMcLaren is allowed on any public highway, wearing its OEM wheels, from McLaren !

haha, I would've enjoyed some of that game show, sounds entertaining.

As far as stock ASC wheels go, there are a number of advantages.

#1 -By changing to a larger diameter wheel/tire combination you improve the drivability immensely. (I know, I know, heaven forbid some of us DO drive our cars, life is too short, I'd rather enjoy them a little

)15" wheels are unheard of now for any performance car or Mustang for that matter.
#2 - you improve the looks of the car, basically making it less dated. The stock wheels are okay, but Its hard to argue with people who have changed theirs to 16-17-18" rims, especially a quality chrome 5 star. (the ones on this red one don't qualify) Nick's '89 royal gold car is beautiful! As is the new '87 #479, just located. I still have the stock rims on mine, but will be changing them out in the near future, but rest assured I will never get rid of the stock wheels and will probably throw them back on for shows.
#3 - Your tire choice jumps significantly, there are not many options for P22560-R15 tires.

I guess thats my 2 cents........

I totaly agree and under stand what shelbyscarab is talking about, especially with #1

I hope that you do enjoy your cars, as much as I do mine. Being one person, I cannot drive all of my six cars. The 3 McLarens are for car shows & professional competition, in which I've taken 2 first places, and one People's Choice trophy. I use the Cherokee Limited in the winter when snow is on the ground, and the daily driver is the Lincoln Town Car Limited Edition. It has 9,000 miles on it, while the Cherokee has 34,000 on it. I also have a collectible last year for the model 9,000 mile Sixty Special - also a 3 time trophy winner, that has been a "FEATURE CAR" in a Cadillac monthly magazine, and has served as a model speciman for like restorers. She is also a 1-off as documented by CMD, as was pulled from the assembly line at Lake Orion, (Michigan) and sent to the Fleetwood Trim Shop to be factory custom appointed for me.) I enjoy them all and also share them with like minded enthusiasts.
