You appear to be #25 in the list of 59 (discounting GP4s) that we have.

So we have roughly 40% of the vins. Statistically speaking, if we have an even spread of the numbers.....

25/60 * 150 = ~63

But because they didn't do the cars at asc in order....who knows how far off yours might be. Potentially your car could be anywhere from #40-#80. And seriously....it could be off by more than that. I would urge you to NOT tell people a specific number. I would tell them "midway" through production or whatever. People start throwing exact numbers around with no real sources and fights break out.

Nope, we will never know. No one knows when the 140MPH speedos happened. Maybe towards the very end....and how many were installed by the dealer or by the 1st or second owner?

No No No No

Dealers are ONLY allowed to replace spedos when & if the one in the car is broken, and have to fill out several forms and it's against the law....
It's not done. The speedos were installed by McLaren, in Livonia.

They (the 140) were an OPTION (from ascMcLaren) in the EuroCoupes, standard in others. Way back in 1986/1987 I had never seen an '85 with a 140; on the 85. A private party could order a 140 and if they knew how, install it themselves, but, by law, unless the odometer broke, a dealer cannot R&R (remove & replace) this item.

Sandy knows a few people. There is almost no one still left at the asc plant who worked on these cars. From these people, I imagine Sandy has gleaned what information he could so we at least know how many were built.

And as for the documentation, it got shredded.

Someday, we may know since Mustang Marti is in talks to get ALL build documentation from Ford for ALL FOMOCO 79-93 cars. Hopefully, something in that database will be flagged for what cars got built as asc cars. At the very least I think they should have the special DSO codes listed and they could be determined from that.

Well, it's hopeful thinking really. It may never happen.

I can document all 1986, 1987, 1988, 1989 & 1990 ascMcLarens.
1984-1985, as I was told, were all shreaded by a young female worker who got angry over something, shredded & quit ! All we have are the grand totals of the build.

1984 Coupes = 25 - Navy Blue
1984 Verts = 50 - Red

1985 Coupes = 150 - Navy Blue or White
1985 Verts = 257 - Red or White or Black
1985 GPIV = 30. - White or Silver.

Only color breakout on GPIV as 3 Silver Metallic & 27 Oxford White.
