Another one for sale on Ebay.

FORD ASC MCLAREN MUSTANG 5.0 RESTORABLE NICE PROJECT

IMO car is being sold for parts however not to much there thats good. To bad this person stripped what he needed rather then just buying the parts. It would be nice to see this reserected somehow, sigh... Why is it that when we see a car in this condition it gets so personal?

Its really sad to see a McLaren in this kind of condition. Wrecks are different, the owner didn't intend on destroying the car. This is obvious, its never been taken care of. Its probably had 6-7 owners.

Nick, I think the reason it hits home so hard is that you see so few of these anymore and the fact that we own one, we take care of them well, and for just a brief moment, you picture your car in that condition and it makes you cringe.

It is sad though, your right too bad someone couldn't scoop this up and bring it back to life.

I bet if it was a '67 Shelby GT 500 in the same exact condition, there'd be a bidding war on it.

Makes me sick to see. I don't think it could ever be made perfect. If so, the owner would have $70,000 into it.

In 20-25 years there may be the same type of bidding war on this car if someone steps in and stops the destruction. A person would not have to sink any money in this car for years and years if they had enough secure space to keep it. After all that time laid up the appearance would be more acceptable to a future buyer. You would not want it to deteriorate any furthur while in your possesion though.
Lots of people bought used muscle cars when they were just used cars and eventually stored them away for years, some of them totally dissasembled. Those sheltered times helped stop further rot and wear and tear and anyone who did that saw a profit on the car when after all that time they sold the car. Even guys who bought a car, drove it for a while, took it all apart and never touched it again for twenty five years made a profit when they sold their car. Ones left outside continued to fade away, the sun and the rain are monsters. Of course you couldn't justify it if you had to rent space.
One could also spend $500 a year with Hank, you know one piece at a time  . You only have to recover 2 seats not 4, again one at a time, after a number of years you will be down to a paint job. Even the tires and wheels could be bought as singles or pairs instead of a full set. Again only if you have storage at home that you don't have to "pay" for. Your car would have gradually improved over the years, maybe without even moving it, an it only cost a trickle of money spent yearly.
I think that all of the Fox bodied hotrods will follow a similar path to the Shelbys and other muscle cars. I think that they are as low as they will go but I don't think values will rise for 10 or 15 more years. I think the McLarens will have their day in the future but I think it will be the Capri version not the Mustang version that will be the "one".
I wish I had a warehouse.

Since it is local, I'll bid the starting bid of $400 and we'll see what happens. Then at least I know it won't get crushed.

Dont shoot the messenger, but I will play a lil devils advocate. When ever there is a chance of something happening good I get somewhat guarded or pessimistic so if it doesnt happen I wont be dissapointed. When there is a chance things will be terrible I get optimistic trying to find a silver lining, this way in life you are never unhappy. Hope you get the theory.

Now to the point. Be careful making comparisons when we look back 20-25 years ago to attempt to predict were we may be in the future. For instance. The muscle cars of yester year have allot going for them. First off it was the start of the Pony cars and muscle cars. They were also very potent as nothing was close to them until some 20-30 years later of technology because of all the oil embargos, cafe standards, safety, emissions, etc... Keep in mind competition from imports were at a minimal.

Fast forward to today. You have to remember technology moves forward and changes things at a faster rate then ever before. Cars today meet or exceed horsepower/ performance of the big muscle cars. Only time will tell if our beloved fox Stangs and sn95 will become less appealing as cars keep getting more exciting and have the ability to retro our likes and remove our dislikes. I for one always wanted to own a 67 Mustang again, however with these new retro Stangs I can go brand new and do much better.

Hypethetical scenarios in 20-25 years we may not be able to drive these cars as buying gasoline may be illegal cause of all the nasty emmissions and tree huggers. Perhaps they will be to slow for the roads with newer models safely exceeding tripple digit speeds. Anything can be replicated in the future and with newer technology that would make one wonder why we would even resort to consuming our time and space with these antiquities unless they are like artwork we appreciate looking at. If that is the case we can easily remanufacture parts that were once considered obsolete. No more supply and demand issues. Funny how Shelby was able to release so many new Cobras from what he called old inventory from the 60's.

I will finish up with this. There are so many imports and tuner cars which car would become an icon, which one becomes forgotten? In the past it was out of necessity the likes of a Mach I, or Boss was created. Today its out of greed to make profits off of an old friendly name. Cars are no more then a sticker then the soul it once bared. Its more about heritage or legacy. Names like Roush or Saleen have slowly been working on this. Anyway the bottomline is nobody knows what the future holds and what may become worth an investment. One thing is true the best investment is in the things that make you very happy and you expect little in return.

I emailed the owner and got a call back. I am going to look at it tomorrow. He bought the car for parts for his other McLaren apparently. Funny thing is the car is literally down the street from me. 17 blocks down the street, but on the same street.

Anyone who bids on, (let alone wins) that POS needs to invest $20,000 at the psychologist. That's a bucket of trash/rust and will take 10 years and perhaps $40-50,000 to make flawless ! Just buy 6 issues of Hemmings over the next 6 months, & a person could find a decent one, if not a nearly perfect one. Most people today are working 55 hours a week, have financial obligations, wives, children and other needs & wants to devote the rest of their life, (or the next decade) to making a whore-car into a Cinderella Princess.
People never cease amazing me with their INability to stand back & see the forest, rather than the tree in front of them !!

Or the tree growing thru it  Looks like it was won by a high bidder. Mayby the buyer is going to use the vin's and ID plates to rebody the car? Because a 67 Pace Car Camaro is a very valuable car.

Look around at the scenery around the car(s)...do any of you get the impression that I did?
That being it's a secret spot in some woods the drop or strip stolen cars? I mean, that Camaro had to (once upon a time) drive in there, and now there's nothing much left. It does not look like someones' parts buisness, or a rehab center for lost soul collectibles. It looks very hidden. Ummm.
