Take a look at the yellow '89 stick on eBay. One of the most beautiful Mclarens I've seen. ProTouringASC this means you!

Ok, someone shed some light on this.

Apparently there were NO yellow McLarens made in '89. There were 21 made in '87, 23 in '88, and 5 in '90 (if its a '90, this is a 1 of 1 car - nice!).

So.......is this a repaint of an '89 or acually a '87, '88, or '90?

Car is a total repaint. Was originally "Royal Gold Metallic" It's an '89 ! ((One less Royal Gold.... Max of 20, now))

Well I wouldnt say one less gold ASC, technically it can always be repainted back to original color as long as its around.

I emailed the lister of this car to find out about the paint and original wheels. No response. Either way its a sharp looking car, I wouldnt mind leaving it as is and perhaps return it to stock for better resale.

Talk about timing I got a response to the email I sent him. It goes as follows:

"Yes, this is the original paint and special McLaren factory color. The wheels came with the car and were a factory option. No Pony emblem as this is not a regular Mustang but a special Mustang McLaren. Thanks for your interest."

My question maybe someone can answer here is didnt the 25th anniversary Pony emblem still come on the dash of these cars as they were originally sent from Ford?

I can remember reading something about this car in pass threads,
Didn't someone order a yellow mclaren and wanted it right away
and asc resprayed one that was already painted/finished. I could
be wrong but I think asc did repaint it yellow. nevertheless man
thats a nice car!! well cared for.

I vaguely remember such a story. The wheels are definately incorrect and I think the 25th anniversary emblem is missing if I am correct that even these cars had them installed.

Wow, thats a very interesting history! Its great that the history of how the yellow paint came to be was not lost in the last 18 years.

So the yellow paint is justified, although I really do like those royal gold ones. Something just occurred to me, they should've grabbed one of the white cars to do the repaint on, instead of sacrificing one of the gold ones.....

What is the story on the rims? Are those actually from ASC??

Laying in bed, last night, I recalled this, that I wrote, and was gonna try & find it this AM. Thanks for finding it for me. Yes, that is the real story behind this car. The wheels are definately aftermarket, as ascMcLaren did not have these in stock. The reason that they used this car was all of the remaining cars in stock, had either blue or red interior. Thjere were no 1989s left around with the Sand interior, and this was the last one with grey interior. Under the yellow is Royal Gold, but, forwhat it;s worth, yes, ascMcLaren did do the repaint. I beleive they used the HOT Yellow of 1987 & 1988. The original buyer wanted the HOT Yellow, and wanted the car ASAP and did not wanna wait until the 1990s arrived, in March of 1990.
