Any advice?

Post by mark@ddi »

I have mentioned previously that I reluctantly will sell my 85 convertible.

I am at a loss as to what to ask for the car. I know what I have in it and you never get that back.

I know that it is "rare" but I don't exactly understand what that means in terms of value. How many existing 85 verts are there and in what condition? Are they just like a nice fox body mustang convertible?

I listed the cars on Cars.com but I had to go under Mercury and then Capri and who is looking for those given that the last cars were wind up toys.

I have thought about e-bay but I don't know how those come out.

Mecum auction is not coming to KC until December 5-7 of this year.

Can't see trucking this thing on spec to an out of town auction?

I can go to local shows and cruise nights in the Spring and hang a sign on it.

Any ideas on suggested selling price or a good outlet to advertize I sure would appreciate. Son goes to college in the fall and I have seen the numbers on that deal.

Is it $12, $10, or $8?

Thanks

I have not seen pics of the car, that I can recall, nor do I know mileage and/or condition, but I would definately start at $12,000. You can always come down, but going up is hard !

You will never sell it to someone who has not a clue what it is ~ and people who do know what it is will look under Mercury > Capri.

Take it to shows beginning in April, and put a small sign on top the padded dash "FOR SALE" - In ads, put > '85 Merc. Capri ascMcLaren 2-Seat convt.

Wow it looks great!

Negusm the red x doesn't show up and it's impossible to view the pictures at all in firefox. I was able to see the red x in IE.

This car is in great shape. I saw it at a car show. It is well worth the money who ever buys it. Like to see someone buy it that knows what they have. Hate to see Mark sell it. It is beautiful.

I think that it is important to cover "motivation" or why I have to/want to sell it.

I don't know what is wrong with me but my wife says I am nuts. At 60 Cars are my only remaining vice.

So I am searching car web sites and looking at the list of cars I would like to own some day. up pops a 1999 Jaguar XK8 Convertible in Metallic blue with Ivory and brown interior. 27,000 miles. I bought it and was able to drive to Miami and back in December. They are a taxi cab there but rare here. That gives me a 2005 Nissan Altima SER, a 2006 Crossfire convertible. the Jag, and a 2002 Mini Cooper plus the Mclaren. A 2 car garage is all I have so the McLaren is in a storage shed under a cover a couple of miles away.

I don't want to sell it but I am a realist and with college and the current fleet I have to do it.

Yes it has some minor issues but this car is pretty cool. I would prefer that it go to someone who understands and appreciates it and would be kinder in the pricing if I find them interested.

There is a 1988 Mclaren Mustang that I pass on decent days, parked in a driveway and for sale. 11,000 mile car that the guy wanted $14,000 for. California car he says and he has had it for sale for quite a while now.

Sandy this car as I pass it has "decals?" on the rear quarter panels and one on the driver front part of the hood that says Mclaren?? Black and tan color scheme if anyone is interested.

I watched BJ last night and got tired of the Monster cars for sale. For the money they paid they could have gotten my car and had more fun?

I am pretty open to offers from people on the board as it would simplify my life and make my wife happier.
