1988 White/blue - scrapped

Post by shelbyscarab »

It really amazes me how an ASC can end up like this. :( Even the mis-informed people about ASC's know there is something special about these cars.

I guess, if it has to happen to one, it was a white/blue/blue, the most common combo. Must've been ASC's fav......

Don't let it ruin your day too much... I bought the top from the car to use in the making of a removable hardtop. :D

1st class it will be, though the actual project will have to wait until I have a bit more done on my 442.

I plan to use the perimeter of the frame, but welded together and lightened as much as possible. I will need to make some sort of mounting system to connect it to the car where it meets the side windows. I am also looking to see what I will use for a rear glass as well as some sort of rear side glass. I will then form the top from epoxy resined fiberglass. I hope to have a nice headliner as well as a rear window defroster.

While it won't fad be incredibly light, it shouldn't weigh much more than a factory hardtop from a Mercedes SL.

Copy exactly the big fat screw from the soft top, affixing it permanently in place. The pull down mechanics will not know the difference.

Get the same exact rotating handles that the 'Vert's top has, and they need to be bonded top the inside of the product and with the studs 1/2 battle is won, using the existing pin "holes" that the roof uses when "up" ...The curvature of the rear small wrap around windows is the hard part. I do not recall seeing such a tight curve done in glass (on a car).

Afraid cost to you will run rampant and cost to buyer will (of course) follow.
