New Owner here - I bought #622 the Supercharged McLaren that was for sale in the classifieds - car is in great condition but could use a new seat cover drivers side - I saw them for sale for $750 on Mclaren.com is that the cheapest way to reupholster the seat?

Probably not the cheapest, but certainly the most correct way as I believe what you've priced is NOS.

Yeah, you will probably get 100% correct ascMcLaren upholstery from Hank there.

You can always take the seat to an upholstery shop but you won't get an exact match to the passenger seat material like you would by going with NOS.

I've had quotes from many different places for my 86 standard seats and leather is very very expensive. The highest quote with correct perforation was $3800 canadian with labour. Another quote from a leather supplier for the leather ONLY no labour was over $2000 US. Hank is NOT so expensive when you compare and you know they will be correct. Better go with his!!

It will certainly look more correct, though we all know that the original asc leather isn't exactly the best quality!

I have found after years of being in the automobile business, that ANY perforated leather is prone to tearing (ripping) much faster than NON-perforated leather.

What happens over time is that the leather forms "creases" from siting on it. Eventually those creases get like when you fold a piece of paper, and eventually it "connects-the-dots" by tearing ON the crease lines. If the leather is thinner (ours is about the thinnest available)
` but if thicker it will defray the ultimate ripping a bit longer.
The 3 hardest wear areas on a car's interior are:
Driver's door armrest
Driver's Seat
Driver's side Carpeting
and
Driver's Brake Pedal.
The area that will look NEW, in a 10-year old car, will be
the rear seat, behind the driver, the position least used.

I think that a good maintenance of leather would greatly help. Quality products like what is offered by leatherique will definetly extend life as it keeps the hide moisturised and more soft with natural nutriments.
