An ascMcLaren forum for 84-86 Capri and 87-90 Mustang based cars modified by Automotive Speciality Corporation, a Division of American Sunroof Corporation. (no affiliation)
There is a white one listed for sale on Ebay. Bid is up to $511.00.
White convertible, doesn't appear to have any 'extras'. No comments on condition or problems. Drivers window in the up position and parked in front of an auto repair place. Top down and no comments on condition or operation. #14. Has Capri wheels instead of the spider webs.
The car has the wrong seats, and the report shows it has a funny speedometer reading. Could the 140 mph speedo been switched with
the standard 85 mph one? Also looks from the back it had rear tailight covers and this car has cruise.
On the 86, the speedometer reading is off by 60 miles. Could be explained by rounding off when it went from one state to another and it could have been a 'guesstimate' while someone was registering it. But it also looks like it hasn't been driven in 5 years.
What makes you think they're the wrong seats? I know the wheels are wrong but did all 86's come with Recaro's? I think not.
And if you got cruise you did not get the ascMcLaren leather wrapped wheel. Mine says '5.0 SC' in the center of the steering wheel. It is the leather one and I have no cruise.
What does it say in the center portion of the steering wheel? If it has cruise it should say Mercury or Capri. I forget which. Cars with McLaren steering wheels do not have cruise. Mine says 5.0 SC.
My car has the leather wrapped wheel with the horn button in the middle with the Capri cat. This car was built for the owner of Hines Park Lincoln Mercury by ASC in Feb 1986. It was never titled until I purchased it in Dec 2009. Sandy has told me only two had cruise with the leather wrap wheel. I also have a 1986 Capri RS 5.0L with cruise with the same wheel but no leather.
1986 #0001 has cruise with a leather wrapped wheel. It is not the 3-spoke wheel like in the coupes, but rather the 'standard' FoMoCo 2 spoke wheel only with a leather wrap around the rim.
