dash plate numbering

Post by ascmclarn »

I was out at the carlisle, pa show this past weekend and ran across an 88 vert for sale. Now here is what made me start thinking. I have an 88 with dash plate 880, it has a two peice rear lower valance, and mirrors mounting in the window corners. The car for sale was 632 (i think, but it was in the 600's) and had a one piece rear lower valance and mirrors mounted on the door. I have read on here that they switch over in 88 to the newer style mirrors and valance. Then how did my 880 make it out after with the older parts?

I know I have read they just grabbed cars as they sat and didnt follow the VIN number order. The only thing I can come up with is they added the dash plates after each car was built and mine ended up in the back and was finally reached after some newer ones made it out the door(200 cars is alot to pass by).

Any Comments on this?
