Authenticating a Potential Purchase

I am going to view an 88 Mustang ASC. The owner has the title, says it's clean. How do I tell if it's an authentic ASC? Are there any markings/numbers on the car itself? Does the title indicate it's a Mclaren. Also, it's turbocharged. Did they do that or is it most likely post ASC work? The add says it's "factory" turbocharged.

I have never heard of an ASC factory or FoMoCo being supercharged from the factory.

It's practically impossible to make a fake ASC vert. If it has an ASC 3 window top then it's real. It should also have a tag on the core support that says ascmclaren.

No ascmclaren ever came turbo charged. I have seen an ascmclaren that was supercharged. The supercharger was installed by the dealership. Not at the factory or by ASC.

The title will say mustang lx. There should be a number on the dash.

And the paint always looks better then a stock mustang else its just crappy

Sounds like the seller is full of it. I'd be very careful.

The best thing you can do is to go, take pictures and post them here so that we can tell you what is good/bad about the car.

Thanks guys. I looked at it and it's a bit beat. Like an older gal from the 80's she looked good from a distance, and when I approached, her blemishes and wear and tear showed through. The interior in particular has been sun damaged beyond repair. The door hardware is cracked, and the center console appears to have a waterline (!!) on it. Either that, or someone drenched it in coffee because the marking was dark and it's falling apart. I didn't take any pics because I didn't see this reply until after I viewed it. ODO said 49K but she said different IMO.

I am looking for a 5 speed, 5.0 foxbody anyway... not necessarily an ASC.

Only factory turbo McLaren Mustang is a 1980 M81. And it is not a convertible.
