I was playing with a glove box and tried to write up a little how-to.

Very nice Mike. Your write ups are always very helpful

Does it still work if you don't have a key?

I think you might be able to finagle it if you have a screwdriver.

However, get any old key though. Just move the key in and out while you pull the inside latch assembly up. That should move the tumblers enough to get it freed. I took an assembly out of a glove box I couldn't sell on ebay by using a key from another glove box.

I also need to note, that there are numbers on the tumblers (blades). Those numbers should tell a locksmith on how to cut a new key.
