Gas tank woes

On top of my electric problem, I went out to the car the other day and there was a strong gas smell. turns out it is dripping from the bottom of the tank.

So, a new gas tank is in order. I'm going to go ahead and replace the fuel pump, sender unit and all the gaskets while I have the tank dropped.

I understand there is a one-year only fuel sender for an 86? Nice.

Does anyone have any suggestions on what to look for, any gotchas? Maybe look at something else while I'm in there?

If you do replace a tank use the following parts:

Fuel Pump:

Carter P74105HP
Carter P74151HP High Performance 255 IPH

Fuel Filter: Located between the gas tank and the rear axle

Motorcraft FG 800A ( This is a very FINE filter)
Wix 33097 This Filter performs better then the Motorcraft .it filters even smaller particles.

Change the hose from the tank and the return hose from the engine compartment. Must be FUEL APPROVED

Fuel sending unit:
Fox Restoration has a good one Part number #4883010 or
Dorman #692106 from Rock Auto

Change all gaskets and the fuel cap. Purchase a Slant ONLY

Have the gas tank coated. Plus use the new Sta-Bil 360 Performance
Cleans
Maximize MPG
Increase Power
Prevents Ethanol Damage ( This is a BIG problem for old cars)
Smooth Idle

Never let your fuel run below a 1/4 of a tank the fuel will keep your
fuel pump cool.
