Brake rotor question

I'm trying to but 14" wheels on my car to roll around and sandblast/painting. And 2 differnet styles would not work. After getting the cradle off and taking apart Noticed the rotors are about 10.75inchs with metal backing plates. I thought 86 had smaller rotors with plastic backing plates. The only numbers found on the knuckle was 7L8AA and PS9 on the left one. Is this a 90's knuckle or did ASC do something special? Also what seats should I have Gray with red pipe or Gray with gray piping?

Last Sandy was wondering if you could email any old info on my car.

As far as I know, 85-86 rotors should ALL be 10". Asc would not have changed them since crash testing would have been needed to pass the car for sale (well that's my take since a similar thing was attempted on the 85 cars and was nixed for that reason...according to Sandy)...PLUS the stock wheels would have trouble fitting...as you are finding out.

Do you have a EUROCOUPE or Full Packaged Coupe?

EC cars got grey seats with red piping....FP cars got Grey with grey piping.

Mark,

Sounds like someone may have put 87-93 front brakes on your car. If you need something to move it around, find a couple spares.

You bring your car there, you rent their equipment to strip your own car. They give you advise and get you pointed in the right direction, I am going to bring my Crimson cat there. They even do the same thing with powder coating!

That page shows the Mustang the guy stripped. DIY and under $300? CHEAP! The blasting material is going to cost most of that I would think.

I agree with David.

Changing from the stock 10" to 11" rotors is a very common economical performance upgrade that many owners have done so it is possible that you have '87-'93 V8 Mustang (except '93 Cobra) spindles on your car.
An easy way to tell is to measure the width of the mounting flange on the spindle where the strut bolts to the spindle.
The width of the later spindle flange is narrower (13/16") than the width of the early flange (1-1/8").

The preferred method when doing the switch to the later spindles is to also switch over to the later model struts with the narrower flange, but many people will just use the early struts and put spacers in to make up for the difference so if your car has some of these spacers in between the spindle and the mounting flange on the strut, it is a sure sign that you have the later model spindles.

Now that I think about it, I recall your car having a 87-93 master cylinder, rather than the 86 style, which would add to the probability that you have 11 inch front brakes!

Found the pictures Tim sent me of your car, yours did not have the 87-93 master cylinder. Was another car I was looking at!

Thanks for the help, more checking and the struts are the narror ones with larger rotors, And because the master cyender is the oem one with sludge I will upgrade to the Plastic resovoir

sorry this car will be a driver. I'm still confussed about the proper seats Pictures of ASC 86's I've seen all have red piping.
Thanks for the stripping company, Many use later, but have all the equipment here. And the body is about half blasted.
