I know the color well. A neighbor had a Saturn in that color, a coupe. It was a nice Saturn !!
Your car looks great! Did they call those NASA hood scoops? Car is very nice. I'd like to find a Cougar version. THAT would be rare!! I see the cornering lamps, too. I always liked them as Ilive on a very very dark street. Can't have too much light! Cadillac copied those wheels on their 1998 Fleetwood Limited ! Damn near exact.

Sandy, don't you ever look at other people's signatures?Sandy wrote:Question: I know the T-Bird Turbo Coupes moderately well, but I always wondered didn't Mercury have a version of their
own on the Cougar? Wasn't there a Cougar Turbo Coupe as
well? I seem to recall seeing a couple at my dealer.
I guess since it doesn't say "turbo" in the desciption I can let you off the hook.
The Mercury version of the Turbo Coupe was built for three model years, 1984-1986. They were mechanically identical to the Thunderbird's and as you say most of them were ordered with the automatic transmission which did sap a lot of the power from the 2.3 turbo so they are noticable more doggy. It is rare to find a Cougar XR-7 Turbo with a 5-speed but they do exist and I am fortunate enough to own one that I bought from the original owner back in 1987.88bird wrote:...... ya the mercury cougar was the xr7 i believe that was mainly an automatic car as i recall..... needless to say it was a pig compaired to an svo or a even the heavy turbocoupe 5-speed.....
You may be surprised at how much my Cougar does not weigh. The published curb weight on an '86 Cougar V6 with an automatic transmission is 3085 lbs. and the curb weight on an '86 SVO is 3028 lbs.
Thunderbird Turbo Coupe and Cougar XR-7 Turbo production numbers:

1984: 14,744 of 170,551 total Thunderbird production
1985: 20,804 of 151,852 total Thunderbird production
1986: 21,315 of 163,965 total Thunderbird production
1987: 23,833 of 128,123 total Thunderbird production
1988: 35,271 of 139,411 total Thunderbird production
Total number of TurboCoupes built: 128,533
1984: 6,171 of 131,190 Total Cougar production
1985: 7,860 of 109,414 Total Cougar production
1986: 6,504 of 135,904 Total Cougar production

I know that it is blasphemy on this site, but I have to confess that when it comes to non-verts, I am more drawn to the Black Magic and its progeny than to the ascMcLarens. Will I be exiled for such heresy?negusm wrote:So WHO is going to buy this ONE OF A KIND asc?

I doubt it, most all of us here have professed our like for the Black Magic as well. I myself find many Fox body Capri's that I would love to have, there are just too many to choose from.
Thanks for the compliment on my Cougar, I love it too!!

Gentleman and Ladies,
I have tried to call her last night, I am looking at the car seriously. It may take my stars to align correctly for it to happen.
Does anyone want to buy a 1998 Cobra convertible with 35000 miles, that would help the alignment of the stars.
David

I'm also looking at the car. Let me know how you're faring, David. I don't want to step on toes, but it appears it's coming to Michigan one way or another.
88bird, thanks for your research and info. Theres definitely a finders fee for you if I get it. Also, like you I'm into TC's as well. If you need parts, I always have something sitting around. Chuck
