Automobili Intermeccanica article

Post by 75coug »

In the new issue of Old Cars Weekly, there is an article on the Automobili Intermeccanica Mustang convertibles that were sold from 1980-1982. I am mentioning this because I recall seeing Sandy or others mention these cars on the site from time to time.

I don't see the article on their website yet. If anyone is interested, let me know and I will be happy to scan the article.

I'll scan it tonight. I will probably have to send it to Mike for posting, since my technological capabilities will have been maxed when I complete the scanning.

12/1/05 issue.

I overestimated my computer skills. I have spent the last hour fiddling with my scanner, and I can't get a scan decent enough to permit reading the article without getting a serious heacache. Mike, e-mail me your address and I'll mail it off to you on Saturday.

p.s. Have I ever mentioned how much I hate computers?

I'm surprised that so many of those convertibles were sold. 1200 is a bunch for such a specialty vehicle.

Mike, you need to hire some poor college student to do nothing but scan things for you. You could probably pay him (or her) in beer.

They have "Carson Concepts" but they meant (I hope) "Cars & Concepts". Otherwise a good piece. I too heard that they did 1200 in round figures. They were the first, and then came a slew of others....

I am wondering...If they made 1200 of these mustangs before the Mclaren, which one would be worth more...One of these...or an AscMclaren? :?

The McLaren was made much better, and enjoys the statesof a well known name. The ascMcLarens bring the most money.

The mustang still looks strange without the rear roll down windows, to much cloth or something, the asc's fix it by having the back window wrap around the sides a bit

The Automobili Intermeccanica vehicle afforded zero protection from intrusion into the vehicle, even less than a normal convertible. Look back at the picture. Look in the "C" pillar area and you'll see that the "C" pillar area of the fabric top attaches to the car's exterior body panel via "snaps" ~ just UNsnap a few snaps and lift the material up (after all it's only a flap) and just reach in and lift the door lock button! Nothing to break and nothing to cut, nice neat entry. You'll note the ascMcLaren's "C" pillar is attached under the sheet metal of the car, from the INSIDE, rather than an exterior flap and the ascMcLaren utilizes no snaps.
