Peter...... ah, never mind. I'd have to put my $$ on Mike M. Unless he was going 1-on-1 with a Z06, a Maserati or a Jag XJ Supercharged Coupe. Short it that, I'd bet on him. However I do wish he'd STOP racing as I never ever wanna hear that he totalled her.

Anybody..... ? 4-U

My Coupe's driver side muffler has gotten a hole in it and each time I've taken her out (2 times) she gets louder. She is now setting off the garage owner's wife's car's al;arm system when the Coupe starts. The Passenger side is excellent. The 4 pipes are excellent (front exhaust - both sides and tailpipes - both sides. Just the driver's side MUFFLER is shot. What should I replace it with? I cannot get N.O.S. I checked.
I tried to order a like muffler for a 1983 GT and they are not available.
I can get a brandy new WALKER, (possibly what FoMoCo used ??) and can have that installed. The Walker is listed as the correct replacement for a 1986 V-8 Capri and/or 'Stang.

Mike, anyone, what say ?

I split this off for you sandy.

Sandy call Ford and Green Sales. Ask for mufflers up though 1993. GET PART NUMBERS even if they don't have the items!

I am pretty sure they are all going to fit or be nearly identical. 1986 was the first year for true exhaust which continued onward.

1983 Mufflers are NOT what you want to ask for, they had SINGLE exhaust!

It is quite possible the same mufflers were used through 95 since the modular engine didn't debut until 96.

I would be very surprised if somewhere a Ford dealer or NOS parts dealer doesn't have mufflers for 1993 cars.

BTW, Sandy, this is what happens with all those short trips you make. You really need to drive it 20 miles before you put the car away so all the water and junk has burned out of the system.

You may as well hunt down 2 mufflers as your other one won't be far behind.

I did some looking and it looks like Walkers fit all the way up through 97.

I would call the Ford dealer and ask what Ford lists as a replacement for an 86...I bet they have something but it will be a part that superceeds the original.

Then again you can always chuck the whole setup and get stainless from from to back and never have another worry again :D

Not for long it won't be.

A few hardcore people at FEP haven't found NOS mufflers for their cars either. They just aren't kept around.

What are the part numbers for the 1986 and 1993 Mufflers? Get those. Then ask whoever you got it from (Green Sales or the Ford dealer) to do a nationwide search.

If it's Green Sales and they don't have any listed, take the numbers to Ford and have them do a Nationwide search....their search is different.

If neither show anything....then you'll have to use aftermarket stuff.

Also, Sandy, when you talk with Green Sales ask if there are any superceeded part numbers...and if they can give you the whole family tree so to speak.

There should be an E6 (maybe even E5) to start. Then most likely they will go E7, E9, F0, F3, etc. Get as many numbers as you can.

Then talk to the Ford dealer. Ask them ALSO for part numbers. See if they match or diverge. Ask for superceeding part numbers.

With that whole list, have Green Sales and the dealer do a nationwide search for EACH part number. Sometimes I call on different days if I have many numbers as they get a little annoyed. :D

USUALLY something shakes loose....but you ahve to go through all the numbers and get them to work the system for you.

Also, call MATT from foxMustangRestoration. He has the datasheets to look up part numbers.

Somehow I think I sound like a broken record.

I had the local Ford dealer do a nationwide search for it. Nothing. I called Green Sales, & again, nothing. (This was all back in July). I did nt get any part #s

As it happened I got a caller with a McLaren, whose Father worked on the dearborn line in 1987-88. HE said that he's pretty sure that the OEMs Ford put on at Dearborn were made by Walker.

I really don't think whatever value she has, regardless of the dollar amount that one replaced muffler is going to blow a rocket sized hole in that value.

The harder part is if I was going to sell, is to find a COLLECTOR.
It's easy to sell it for $3,500 to a housewife.

You should always get part numbers. You never know what shows up on ebay.

Green Sales has changing inventory all the time. Sometimes they get in all sorts of new stuff. I got a NOS wiper motor that they just got in cause I check their inventory often.

Sandy, what I am surprised at is, you didn't have your exhaust system stored away already or have a second one to go back on.

Exhaust systems wear out no matter what. It's inevitable.

I ran out of room. I have a 9x9 ft. room filled with NOS parts, but 90% are cosmetic. The metal items I coated with petroleum jelly. (McLaren Springs, tie rod tips, etc. The room is heated in the winter, too. Being underground, it's cool in the summer.
I'll contact Matt tonite, and call GREEN tomorrow.
I know for fact the muffler from 1986 thru 1993 is the same. I believe that I can also use an LX model, so long as it's for a V-8 302. (MUFFLER I am speaking of. I know about the tailpipes difference. I only want the muffler. I was under her, and all else looks purr-fect.

So Sandy, what are you going to do when they break out the saws-all to get the old muffler out?

Make sure the shop you take it to knows you want them to try and reusue the tail pipe and so on so they take the muffler out without hurting them. It may be very difficult.

It will not be too difficult. I have located a custom muffler shop, that has an eye toward performance. It's more time consumming ( $$$$) but can be done for more ( $$$$$$ ) :D
