ASC McLaren Onwers Group?

Is there a ASC/ASCMcLaren Owners group that anyone is aware of? With two Capris I just dont seem to fit into all of the Mustang Owners groups that are out there. In the "Oh by The Way Department" I am not knocking Mustangs I love them all.

This group is a great place for all owners and enthusiasts. It even gets better when more people participate and share their knowledge, pictures, and themselves.

I didn't take an actual count, but....it seemed like most everyone from the group herein who is from Michigan, attended. We, as a group, are spread out all across America & Canada. Most have jobs, many have families, and cannot get away that distance (with car) for just a day or two.

This web site and the forums are the largest "Owner's Group" you will ever find. Capris and Mustangs are equally welcome and respected.

Another web site you may want to check out for Capris is www.foureyedpride.com. They have very helpful forums but are currently down for a site change which should be done in a day or so.

However wouldn't it be safe to say that it is for Fox bodystyle Ford cars? I mean the Buick GNX and Pontiac Grand Prix that also have a special edition of their ASC McLaren's are very nice but may not be as accepted in todays format of the group. Would that ever change in the future?

Yes, that would be safe to say. I don't think we will ever branch out into the other cars.

For a general "asc Owner's Group" that encompasses all cars asc touched, I have never heard of one.

The Pontiac asc cars are over at the W-body forums. The GNX guys are at the buick forums and the Mustang/Capri guys are here and at places like Corral, FEP and Stangnet. Each group rarely mingles with the others too much.

Ooh I wouldnt say ASC alone but the name ASC McLaren is another story lol. ASC is involved in many, many vehicle applications. For example the Camaro and Firebird convertibles of the late 80's early 90's or the newe Chevy SSR. The Camaro Firebirds were made much like our cars too during the same time frame.

I just thought of something I never realized before. The Mustang and Capri's were the only ASC McLaren's made that didn't have any speed performance enhancements. I bet you if they added a supercharger at least the sales would have rocketed and even justified the expenses more.

Well, not all....the Coupes got a few goodies.

But yes, if asc had worked the horsepower more than the style...things would be different.

I concur.

I've always thought that, if ASC/Ford would've sold more units if they had simply added one or two minor performance enhancements over the standard GT, #1 they would've sold more & #2 ASC Mclarens would be better remembered and recognized. BETTER HEADERS & EXHAUST would've been nice and probably added 20-40 hp. I like Nick's 'what if' better though, a supercharger would've been nice!

Whoa, wait -up...

Correct me if I am wrong, but of the aforementioned, I do believe that the "Cam-Birds" convertibles didn't have any under hood trweeking nor exhaust mods. After the intitial SPLASH of the ascMcLaren Turbo Grand Prix, the engine (supplied by GM) trickled down to lesser G.P.s and to Buicks, as well.

Remember, the goal for the project was 500 units per model-year, after 1986. The project was earmarked for 1984 thru 1993, the end of the body style. However, with the project ended (aborted, a better choice of words, here) in 1990, the "correct total" would have been 2,500 in total. Okay, so they did 2,358, so they did in fact achieve their goals.

ASC is not really involved in tuning engines, and they wanted a connection to offer such. Thusly the "marriage" to McLaren Engineering was born. Our cars were the 1st children of that marriage. Really the only thing that McLaren contributed were the SPRINGS that went into the 1984, 1985 & 1986 cars. But, most important was the link of the two names; ascMcLaren, in the minds of Ford. The advertising proclaimed that asc could do body and interior mods, while partner McLaren Engineering would handle the performance end. They needed & wanted to get that name "out there".

The 84-86 ASC Mclaren coupes were modified to various degrees! Maybe that explains why they are sought after.

True, but the funny part is that FORD, did most of the custom tuning, with the B-303 Cam installed! Then the McLaren Springs, to lower it.
