Not really you never made a offer ,you kept trying to find the
value of those qtr panels.I never replied because there was no offer,I don't haggle with my stuff or when buying stuff.

Then how should I have taken your comment of: "If you can find me some nice 1/4's for my Fairlane, we can work something out on the Mclaren"

Your the one that brought it up, not me. I wasted my time and effort for nothing it appears. How do you know what offer I had for you, you never called back. If you have any further comments, I'll be happy to discuss them with you privately.

you never gave the price or the pictures.It was clear I wanted $2500 for the car and no offers in my driveway or the 3 calls or numerous emails

Back to the topic on hand.

David, maybe you could sell the car on ebay with a BIN of $2500.

If we're lucky, maybe somebody might be able to do the work themselves to fix it so as to keep it reasonable.

I think it could be fixed. No repair is perfect but worse cars get repaired.

How much do you think the car was worth before it got hit?

This is whats up with the car, I am going to pull the unit down to a rolling chassis, taking pictures as I go. A friend has offered me a place to stash the car (body) , until I have my barn completed.

I am going to keep the original driveline. I may sell of a few parts from the car. I have way to may parts sitting around.

My uncle plans to retire in the next few years and wants to restore cars as living/hobby. Then break the car back out.

I have had one guy say about 2500.00 worth of labor to fix it, plus parts. I rather take that money and buy a used frame machine with my uncle. I'd do the work myself.

I just don't have tools to repair the car. I can repair anything, except a major uni-body repair as this.

Rather than part the car out and have it go to the shreader, I have choose this route for the car. So to sum it up, the driveline and shell will stay with me, until I find a way to straighten the uni-body myself.

Believe it or not, I have not been able to sleep worried about this car!

Glad to hear it. I hated the thought of it going to the shreder.
May it live on in spirt and some day to return to the street.
Heck maybe in 20years or so some kid will find it and repair it. You know the storys found it in some barn with a Tree growing in it. And most of the parts were in box's. And how it takes a tractor and 2 days to dig it out.

It's a question of time & money. I still say, as I said in the beginning, that it can be repaired. Heck, the make Cadillac station wagons outta sedan de villes, & I have seen Lincoln Mark "Rancheros" as I am sure you guys have also seen.
1) Do you love the car?
2) Would it hurt you to see it crushed?
3) Would like like to have it - fixed - in the future ?

If you answer yes to all 3 ~ then keep it. If you are
truly dedicated, you are young. You will find the time
to do what you elect to do with it. Money ? You will
find the money. It may be slow going at first, but
over the next couple of years - you will find or save,
or do without some other things....again, if you are
truly devoted to the car.

I wish you luck, strength & health and PATIENCE
to re-build and enjoy. Thank God you are allright.

Honestly, if I wasn't tied down with kids and all, I would have negotiated for it and done what David is doing now, store it away.

When my son was older, I would pull it out and get her done.

It may not be worth it, but I bet my son would love to have an 85 asc coupe. I can't keep him away from mine! He's always trying to FIX it for me!

My son (who is only three) can tell you EVERY make and model of vehicle on the road today. And some I myself do not know unless I can read the tag. He especially knows his Corvettes, Camaros and Mustangs. And I mean the style changes. He knows the 2005 vs the latemodel vs the classic Mustangs.

He is driving his mother crazy with his car books, toy cars, car talk and what he wants for his first car. My wife rolls her eyes and I just tell her its in the blood. She's starting to understand I think...

...now I just need to work on my daughter...

thats what i was planning for it if dave and i could have struck a deal a future repair and kept it stored till then and tinker with it along the way with my boys my daughter could care less

. Glad you decided to fix it dave that is best these cars will one day be worth the $
