Misc asc Parts For sale in Cincinnati

Questions:

1. Is the Kenwood 7164 correct for the 5.0 SC? If not, is it close, in terms of appearance?

2. Is the tonneau applique flat? The one on my car is kind of wavy. Would a new tonneau applique be flat if put on the car, or would it be wavy too? Is this the item for which Henry charges $314?

I can't honestly say about the 7164....Mike mentioned some got it, but again, I was told this was correct for my Coupe from the partsman himself before I even owned a vert.

The tonneau is flat, it is brand new and never been on a car. I bought it from Henry but I am pretty sure I paid well over 400 at the time. Sorry for the delay, been working long days.

I see 7 OUTSIDE loading caps? If you guys don't pick them all up, I might take the worst ones for cheap.

Are the speakers, ripped, torn or anything? Or just unknown/untested?

If they are not torn up I'd take them. I could probably just test them myself. I'm thinking I could swap them in place of the new Kenwood dash speakers I have. These might be more balanced. I had to kick down the power on mine with some pots which I'd like to remove.

Sorry guys, my girlfriend has injured her back, and I have been unable to get on here. I will try to get everyone's PM's, shipments sorted out this week, and hope to ship this weekend. Working on pics and responses today.

I have responded to all PM's. Thinking the front load caps are all accounted for currently, I am looking to get 10$ each plus shipping for the centers.

Anyone have any ideas how to test the radios. I realize they are not new and have been sitting since I bought them. Any help to test would be greatly appreciated.

Ponydude, has a 1985 vert with the Alpine 2 post radio in it.

I looked it up. It was the 7263. It's very close.

Yep, my 85' RS had a DIN opening.

Yes all 85/86 cars had DIN openings.

But that didn't prevent asc from installing post style radios in 1985. (they still fit).

The best we can tell:

85 Coupes = Kenwood 2001 post style.
Some LATE 85 Coupes = Alpine 7272 DIN
86 Coupes = Alpine 7272 DIN

85Verts = Alpine 7263 and rarely the Kenwood 2001 post style radios. The 7263 looks to have come with a small amp that replaces the Ford one in the center of the dash. I have one of those somewhere too.
Late 85verts may have gotten the Alpine 7272...can't confirm.
86Verts = Alpine 7272

Early-mid 1985 Coupes received the same 6" round Kenwood speakers that the verts received (with square speaker cover). The rear plastic panels were not cut at Ford for speakers before they got to asc. As far as we can tell, Ford started stamping their rear quarter panels for speakers, so asc had to go to the 6x9" Kenwoods as the 6" round speakers would not fit. The speaker covers are rectangular.

For 85-86 verts, I think they remained 6" round Kenwoods throughout. I know I have seen the square speaker covers on the 85s...dunno if they changed in 86 although I know the same speaker was available from Kenwood through 86.

The 85 cars had more variations than the 86 cars. If you run accross an asc car with vintage Kenwood or Alpine radios/speakers from the correct time frame...most likely they will be original. It seems for 85 at least asc was grabbing whatever worked and throwing it in their cars. I have not seen another brand besides Kenwood/Alpine.

Oh...if you see a FOMOCO radio in the car...it really isn't supposed to be there.

Either the original broke or was stolen and the dealer replaced it with a FOMOCO one. Or if it slipped through from Ford then asc should have changed it and if asc didn't change it or installed a FOMOCO one it might be because they ran out of the Kenwood/Alpine stock.

But bottom line is that the cars were SUPPOSED to get an upgraded sound system. It's up to the owner to determine if they want to correct the factory/dealer mistake or not.

How do the twin posts mount in a square opening then.
Weren't the twin ones supported by the 2 small knob holes?

For aftermarket radios, they usually came with a metal backing plate and a face plate. You sandwitch the dash together between the two.

They are supported in the back with a strap.
