Kenwood Rectangular Speaker Covers

Post by negusm »

While not EXACTLY like Sandy's speaker covers in his 86...they are vintage, Kenwood and the NEXT BEST THING!

For guys with 85s with aftermarket speakers added by a previous owner, this might be worthwhile getting.

The covers are super rare. I bet the speakers can be replaced with newer ones or probably fixed with a bit of super glue.

I purchased them for my '86

Thanks Mike. They are better than the OEM Premium sound speakers that were in the car when I got it from Hank.

You had premium FORD speakers?

Are you sure they weren't original?

These cars got so many speaker/radio combination from 85-86 it's hard to tell what asc was doing.

It had to be a 6X9 of some brand

The cut out is bigger and the premium grilles just barely cover the wholes. The radio was an Alpine, so I'm guessing they did the Kenwwod speakers?

Ahhh I see. Yeah, either somebody pu in 6x9s or asc put in 6x9s.

These grills should cover better than the Ford ones.

I have a new in the ox set of these 6x9s with the rectangualr grills....just in case I get another 85 asc down the road that needs 6x9 rear Kenwoods :D They don't come up hardly at all.

I hope the Kenwood grilles are worth $50??

I received the speakers and the foam in the speaker itself is just crumbling away. Speakers are brand new. Just must have been stored in a hot place or something. However the grilles are perfect! :D

FYI: I got a set of Kenwood square covers from Hank. I got the correct size Kenwood speakers and the covers FIT!

So maybe you can get some 6x9 Kenwoods and they will still fit the covers with no mods.

Just don't get speakers that have a tweeter or something in the center that sits too HIGH. The cover won't fit! Get speakers that when looking from the side, there is nothing that sticks above the outside edge of the main cone.

I got my first set of 3-way speakers and had that problem. The second set, I had to get was 2-way. They sound about as good though. I got both on ebay for about half of what Crutchfield wants....I ebayed the first for about the same as I bought it....so I didn't loose much.
