HEY sandy, with so few miles on your bad ass 86 coupe why is the fender extension faded out so bad. Is it a poor color match after a scratch repair or something? Is the other side the same? Is the top of the bumper the same color too? I have seen this a bunch on high mile original paint capris and mustangs that just sit in the sun all the time but I would think yours does not do that. Did it sit out for several years in the sun? Wealthy in many ways is the man who is able to buy a car, a PERFORMANCE CAR, and not have to use it for a daily driver and has the fortitude to keep from drivin the tulips out of it anyways. Awesome cars you have.

I think his "story"

is that the wax wasn't fully buffed before the picture was taken.

So many questions, so little time.....
In order asked....

1.) It's not faded out at all.
2.) She's never been scratched (or something....)
3.) It has never sat out in the sun, except for about a week in Sept. of '86
when I took it home.
4.) The front fender tips are fiberglass, and the paint on them reacts
differently than the metal to climatic conditions. If it's damp outside,
or she's been in thegarage on a cool day, they will appear to be lighter
or when waxed, as she had just been ~ it takes an unusually longer
time & effort to rub off all the wax, and when done, it takes a small
amount of time for them to return to match the remainder of the car.
5.) I had just pulled her out of the garage to shoot this picture, and and
damp wiped her off, and did a quick once over wax, on the upper
2/3rds of the car. I didn't spend the extra time on the fender tips. So,
in this photo, they are lighter. However, they are absolutely NOT faded
6.) Check out the other photos Mike posted to see how she be after
sitting outdoors in the sun for 20 minutes.

I drive many cars I own and each of them see more miles a year than any of your cars have on their odometers, each and every year. I can't resist the urge to drive anyone of them. I will be in the bidding war for your coupe if it happens during my lifetime and some miles will be added

I cannot help you with computer-stuff, as I am in 2nd grade, computer-wise.

However...... Regarding my mileage. I live in overcrowed and partially insane New Jersey. Nearly 80%of all females drive yakking on the cell phone and paying attention comes 2nd. Fender benders are no longer anything that the offender cares very much about. It's become about as routine as a shooting in New York. I don't want my car(s) in my eyes, much less a future owner's eyes, to become a victim of a rear ender. Where would I get parts? Junk Yard? Would you want to put junk yard parts on her ?? See? So, I deprive myslef of the percieved pleasure of driving them (the 3 McLarens) in the name of keeping them brand new and brand new (trust me) they are. My wife & son share a 2001 (last one made) Jeep XJ Cherokee Limited "Final 500" Edition that has 32,000 miles on it. It's in AAA perfect condition, with one tiny little stone chip on the driver's door paint, that I touched up. Otherwise, it's flawless.
I drive my 2003 Town Car Signature Series Spring Special LIMITED in Mineral Silver-Green Firemist. She has 10,000 on her.
She was parked at my Dr's office on the street on Feb 2 last year (2005).
A dumb witch on the phone, high on crack doing 35 MPH plowed into the back of my Lincoln.
The Lincoln sustained $18,437.00 damage. The car had to be rebuilt, totally. 95 days in the bodyshop Car now sits on a new frame ! New everything from the quarter panels back to the byumper panel.
I was 100% going to sell it, when I got it back. BUT BUT BUT...... I was sure it would be totalled.
My horse's @$$ insurer PALISADES INS CO would not hear of it......
and they said they'd allow me to have it fixed by whomever I wanted. GOOD!
It went to a Classic Car Restoration shoppe. Still positive I was going to sell it, I ordered a 2005 replacement. When I got it back, I was amazed.
She is100% perfect, like it never happened. I am ultra fussy & picky & could find nothing wrong.
Now, 4 thousand miles later, she is still flawless, and I have kept her.

Funny side story. When she was "all done" and they called me to come get her, I borrowed a DEALER plate from my selling L-M dealer, replacing MY plates with it, for just an hour.
I drove my Towniee to a friend's body shop. He had never seen my car. I told him that it belonged to a dealer and I was thinking about buying it and wanted to know if it had ever been in an accident. So....he visually looked it over and brought it inside & did the magnet thing (no bondo, all new panels) and then put her up in the air to see underneath. After 15 minutes he declaired that she was a virgin! He didn't charge me anything as we go back a long way, an I sent him a sloppy joe - delivered from a local deli as a thanks.

Ya, she's THAT good.

But........that was because she was only 18 months old when that happened, and all parts were very available.

What "IF" I had taken one of the McLarens....that day ???

You almost had it right. You were missing "http://" at the beginning and at the very end you had "ipg" instead of "jpg". I fixed it for you.

No way. You both lose. Sandy knows I'd treat her right and be the guy who would put her into a garage vault to be taken out only to be shown on summer weekend car shows. He also knows I have the stock of NOS parts to keep her going too if something went.

Actually Sandy told me that he's got a plot big enough that he and the McLaren will be buried and entombed in a solid block of concrete.

Mike your "n20capri" car is also on my list of cars to watch and purchase when it goes on the market. I intend to have it also, along with one of each other color coupe made in 86.

I won't treat any of them right so I'll apoligize to all previous owners early, sorry, the car was beggin to be driven to the limit and I couldnt help it!!

stangmodifier, the URL you posted is for the main page. You need a URL that has the picture file name in it.

Like:

http://www.ascmclaren.org/phpBB/templat ... _phpBB.gif

"logo_phpBB.gif" is the image file.

There are some rules as to what images will show in-line and what won't.

For OFF-SITE images: The URL MUST have an image filename in it with an extension of jpg, gif, png, jpeg, etc. Some sites serve up pictures without using the image filename in the URL to restrict "hotlinkink". Those will not work here.

For ON-SITE images (images in the album area or on the www.ascmcalren.org site): The URL for the image does not have to have the filename in it. The album software here does not use the image filename in the URL to serve up images in order to prevent other sites from hot-linking to us and sucking bandwidth.

Unfortunately, stangmodifier, you haven't really run into any of the above limitations yet...you need to work on copying the correct URL.
