Another McLaren in print

Post by stangmodifier »

On page 14 of the Dec. 06 Hemmings Motor news is a write up of a 1985 coupe that the author found for sale in New York this past May at a swap meet in Rhinebeck New York. There is a little info about history, a little about the McLaren package and 4 pictures of the car sighted. It is not much but it did get a full page near the front of the "car bible"as I've heard it called. Exposure like this is what will generate a greater interest in our cars. Oh and by the way the car has the scoops in the hood not the louvers, and small orange pinstripping on the hood.

I know the car & I am shocked that the owner sold it! It's a 1-Off, and the stripes on the hood are FACTORY applied! They were contimplating that, but changed their minds. I have several pic of that car. Like I said, I cannot believe he sold it....

Sandy I don't know if it sold or not. The author said the asking price was $10,500 and then went on to describe it as a number 3 car and said asking price was well north of the $6850 high book value for a number one car. I thought I had read somewhere in one of your previous posts about a car with tape stripes on the hood.

If you are able, get me the telephone # ~ I wanna call & see

#1.) IF it's the SAME car
and if it is.........
#2.) Why on earth he is selling it......

I have a feeling it might be a different car OR a subsequent owner.
The guy I met (Yes, the car was actually in my driveway) would
not have let her get to a #3 condition, I'm pretty sure of that.

Yes, same number. Mike, you have the pics of the car with the scoops & stripes on the hood. Are the stripes on this car's hood, in Hemmings, the same style and application, from what you can see ????

That's THE car that was in my driveway, that I posted pics of. It was in much better cosmetic condition, back then, but it's certainly not THAT bad, now. A few hundred to Henry Huisman and some work and she'll be exceptionally nice, again. I have come across a grand total of 3 of these with these NASA-type indented hood scoops, but this one is the only one with those unusual hood stripes. I am 100% positive that they were installed by asc & at asc when she was made, as the stripe goes UNDER the edge of the hood scoop, meaning that the stripe had to go on 1st ~ before the scoop was installed. All 3 cars I found like this bore very very early (or low) VINs beginning 601_ _ _ or under...
