There are so many of these 84-86's without the full package. Be interesting to know how many of each with decor, radar detector, Recaro's etc.

maybe I used the wrong word. I'm referring to a vert with decor package, recaro's, radar detector, PW/PS/PB/PDL, remote access etc. You have a pic of an 84 in your album that shows the decor package. I have no idea what's inside the car. But mainly, the exterior, which gives a person the first impression of the vehicle. Most don't have the decor pkg.

Okay. You call it a 'sports package' and I'm calling it a 'decor package' but we ARE talking about the same thing and I see it on the 84 in your album. Mine has it all. headlight, taillight covers, air dam, valances etc. All are in perfect condition, not a scratch on them.

But why are so few equipped with it?

And your album shows a picture entitled 1984, with the 'sports package' but without the headlight covers.

".... recaro's, radar detector, PW/PS/PB/PDL, remote access ""

Power Steering & Brakes were STANDARD on all 1986 V-8 Capris.....
Recaros were a Stand Alone Opttion (SAO) in dealer-speak)
and in 1986, could even be ordered on a 6 Cyl. Convertible....
Ditto for the Radar Detector, the Power Door Locks & Trunk Lid Release and the ascMcLaren installed Remote Entry & Trunk release.

The SOLE option on the cars FROM MERCURY was the Automatic Transmission. In order to be able to get the Remote Door lock/UNlock with remote controlled trunk release, the unit HAD to be FoMoCo ordered WITH the optional Power Door Locks, from Ford.

So, to get it all, an order would have had to look like this:

1986 Mercury 5.0 RS
D32 Package
(Power Locks if ascMcLaren Remote was to be installed)
Automatic Transmission (If Desired)
Air Conditioning
Fleet Tinted Windshield

Recaros were in stalled at ascMcLaen, as well as Whistler Radar Unit,
head & tail light covers and all the rest.
The door windows were custom made - tinted - and swapped at ascMcLaren. The Recaros, Whistler & Remote Entry were sold individually!!!!!!!
Having one of them did NOT mean it all 2 or all 3. It was Al la Carte !!

IF it was a V-8 and did NOT have Recaros, it had the GT articulating seats, ascMcLaren leather covered, Underneath are the OEM Cloth cover ones (I think)!
If a 6-Cyl. it cot the standard seats, but recovered in ascMcLaren Leather.

Sports/Decor was the front ground effects with Fog Lamps (Marchal or Hella), the side ground effects, the under rear bunper defusser and on Capri, the head & taillamp covers

Any idea how many of the '86 verts were built with the sports decor package? I just looked in the info section of the board and didn't see anything....

No option installation numbers were released. However, I do have them for all years of the Mustang McLarens - but not for the Capri(s) of 84 85 & 86.

Sandy: That's a shame. In my opinion the Capri's have so much class!! The Mustang/McLarens look almost like the GT's of that era and I think that definetly hurts our resale value!!

What still bugs me is the 5.0 SC on the 86 fuel injection intakes. It's NOT on all the convertibles. Only a few. I've seen 2 others and they have the 5.0 HO plaques. The SC HAS to stand for something, but who in heck knows!

lol we have come up with so many things the "sc" could stand for over the years.

the "sports decor" package could only be orderd on an 86 BUT you could buy all the parts from your local FLM parts dept. my best guess is the 84 in my album had it installed at the dealer or after buying the car. all they had to do was buy the parts.

sandy do you know what month the "sports decor" package was offerd? i think i remember it being offerd half way through the 86 model year? yes? no?

anyway i agree with kentennis. the sports package is what MAKES the Capri. i would never buy a capri vert without the sports decor package... and i want an 85 5 speed vert BAD. but i would have to install the ground effects.

Just after January 1986. A few press photo cars got the pkg. in early December of 1985.

I agree, this is one of the main reasons I do not like the vert I bought, looks too plain and blah to me without some ground effects of sort.

I agree its makes a world of difference to me.

I think the package is what turns the heads with the Capri.
