Sandy, awesome list....I can grasp how rare some of the 86's I have owned, in relative terms. I guess any 86 is rare these days, but it's still nice to know that I had the only car with t-tops and a sunroof... :D Just kidding.

Edit....Sandy, check your PM's.

WOW...This should raise a few eyebrows over at
FEP.
Sandy,
Where did the extra 537 RS's come from.. :? I thought the pro-
duction #'s on the 86 RS was 3,303.

I also thought that the dark sage was avaliable on the RS.

Thanks for catching the two bloopers :(

Dark Sage was in fact available on the RS !! I'll fix it.
The "missing" RS cars were the Canadian vehicles.
They had been accidentally omitted from the 3,303
figure. The Canadian GS were actually included!

Heh. Yeah thats a crazy small number of Dark Sage cars. I guess it just was an unpopular color.

Sage Green was also available on SVO's in 1985 & 1986, it's the rarest color SVO made. There were a total of 47 built, 34 in '85 & 13 in '86.
Personally I would not have thought it would be a very attractive color on an SVO but a few years ago, one showed up at Carlisle.

Back in 1986 I would have never considered it, but I couldn't stop staring at this SVO, and I must have taken 1/2 dozen pictures of it, I thought it looked very nice.
Maybe it's because I am getting older or something, there are many colors that I didn't used to like on cars that I like now. :shrug

It would be very interesting to see an '86 Capri 5.0L in Dark Sage.

I can explain it ...
Over the years you've seen many Mustangs & Capris in all of the colors, BUT you've probably seen only the one Sage Green, SO...it looks fresh & different and unique, and therefore attractive to you as something you had not seen before.
It is THE very reason whenever I buy a car, I go for either a brand new color or last year's poorest selling color. It always looks fresh, even to the eyes on non-car people.

I agree. On my 96 Probe GT I got "boysenberry blue" (a bluish purple) which was supposed to be a new color exclusive to the Probe for 96 (although I think they used it on the ranger in 95 or 97). It was a very rare color, I bet very few people ordered it. I have seen maybe 2 probes among the gazillion red, black and white ones.

I got a TON of compliments on that color. Girls especially LOVED that color.

Yes, that is the one although the paint chip doesn't do the color justice.

I for one do not understand why people settle for the drab ugly colors on the market. It is very tough finding anything exciting. For both our last two cars, my wife lamented how it would be nice to get a color like what was on my probe.

While I prefer bright reds, I have a soft spot for gold cars too. And not the bleached out goldish look that has been popular with Japanese cars for a while. I mean gold gold.

My daily driver 2000 GT is sunburst gold, which was a one-year color and sold in small numbers. I have seen a handful of other Mustangs in this color over the years, but have never seen another GT in person. This link is not to a site run by me, but the car in it looks just like mine (except that I put Bullitt wheels on it a while back):

My beloved '75 Cougar is gold too. Please ignore the rust:
