Wheel Refinishing/Resto

Anyone know of very reputable shops that do wheel refinishing? Mine look to be in pretty rough shape from years of sun-baking. Paint is chipping off and the polished metal part has corrosion. I put some $$ aside this winter and I think this will be my next big job.

I had mine redone to BRAND NEW, PERFECT quality from Hank in Florida.

Send him an email and see what he says for a price.

Just curious - any recollection of what the shipping costs of sending the wheels down to Hank?? I won't bother asking you what you paid for refinshing because I'm sure that all wheels will be different based on condition.

2/monitor box was like $25 or something from NY to FL.

$50 total...but shipping has gone up.

Ok...better LATE than NEVER! I FINALLY GOT A PICTURE!

Any specs on there are just dirt/dust. I cleaned them up as best I could. They look good at this distance...how do you think they look at 10ft?

I have seen 1 of his refurbed ones up close too. I was on vacation a few years ago, and he popped a perfect orange one out of the box for me to drool on, and i was in AWE. It was NICE.

Once I stop being lazy I will re-do mine myself...I have all the stuff I'm just lazy as all hell...the car is annoying me lately so we aren't speaking at the moment...lol

Honestly, this is one thing I'm very glad I did not try myself.

#1. You can't see it too well, but the outer lip is nicely machined so there are even concentric circles running the whole circumfernece of the wheel.

#2. Look closely and you CAN see the machining that was done on the face where they took off the orange paint. I don't know how they did it but the machine lines are nice and even. I could never do the same with a grinder.

#3 The Orange paint is a PERFECT match. The wheel is painted inside and out.

#4 The clearcoat is gorgeously thick and smooth and lusterous.

#5 The wheels were straightened and balanced. They were balanced correctly with weights put on the INSIDE.

#6 ALL the road rash was machined out of each wheel. There isn't a wave in the metal anywhere from grinding it out.

They are probably better than when they were new. If I needed more done, I would send them to Hank and just pay whatever he asked.

There are many companies out there that can do the job. You probably can find one in your local area. You do need to tell them the details of what needs to be done. Such as where to paint, what should be bare metal and what should be clear coat. These companies do wheels everyday so the metal work is simple to them. I'm sure Hank just has a local supplier set up to do it. Expect to pay $80 for refinishing and add $20-50 for curb rash. It's also best to have them install the tires as long as you don't have to have them shipped. Cost is the only limitation on the work that can be done. They can replace a 3" missing chunk if needed. I know of a place around Baltimore, MD and the place I used in Allentown, PA (Wheel Collision Center) that have done SVO wheels. I don't know what kind of finish was originally on the backside, but consider having them clear coated as it's much easier to clean.

I called a place here in Charlotte and I started asking them how they were going to refinish it and got cold feet....they were a little iffy on exactly how to do it....plus I needed to provide correct paint code, etc....Hank at least has that stuff already down. Turn around time was pretty fast too.

If anybody does go elsewhere, take a nice big color printout of the wheel I posted so they can get it right the first time.
