I am seriously considering selling my car in spring to purchase a 92-97 Vette.( I only have a 1 bay garage)
What do y'all think (regarding the current market ) I would expect to get for it, realistically speaking and not some inflated asking price. Please refer to my album for pics. I can answer any and all Q's ie mech. int. ext condition.
Your car is very nice. It is unique, the insurance is low and it is a conversation piece. Furthermore, the values on these are super low - simply because the world is totally UNfamilar with them and to sell one you'd have to almost do so at give-qway pricing.
For just the oppisite:
A Corvette = high insurance, high theft, very commonplace car with small depreciation ...meaning you pay plenty, to drive one of millions out there.
Keep what ya got. If it ain't perfect, use the $$$ that would go into the Corvette to bring your McLaren back to where you want it to be.
Sandy passed away in 2012. He will be forever missed.
1990 Final Car prior to the 12 Silver Anny Editions
1990 Silver Pearl Anny Edition
1986 Coupe Full Pkg #109 of 114.
Sandy I totally agree except..... I know that if I keep my Mclaren (which I love) I will end up doing mods such as: aluminum heads - super charger - aftermarket intake etc...
It will B VERY hard for me to resist the urge to modify the car.
Just saying. On the other hand, any mods/upgrades that I end up doing would never B "hack jobs" & would B entirely reversible seeing as how I would never even think of tossing the OEM parts.
Why a '97 Vette? They are a different body style than the 84-96 models. I was trying to steal a '96 low mileage Vette Convertible when some blonde bimbo came to the guy and paid full price! That's the one I'd like to have.
It's a toss up between the Corvette I have (80 L-82) and the McLaren. I like them both but once settled in, the Vette is the more comfortable but rides a little stiffer. The Vette is a tad harder to enter and is a lot longer than the Mclaren. You don't realize how long the 80-82 C3 vettes are till you park next to something else. like a McLaren!
I paid $8600.00 for the Vette 7 years ago. One L82 sold at auction for $13,500.00 and another (very low mileage) for $21,250.00. The only recent auction sales of good quality 80's.
Build a bigger garage. We have a 2 car garage, 2 20' x 20' carports and a 44' x 32' barn. If I'd have made the barn 10' deeper, to 40', I could buy some more cars.
why a 97? Because I like the body style and above all in 97, the Vette jumped up to 350HP as opposed to 300HP from 92 to 96. Previous to 92, the Vette's lacked the (new) LT1 which I'm not interested in.

Better late than ever, but I just got around to reading the thread.I can only speak for myself. I don't know what the age group in the forum is , but I am 70. I have owned about every type of auto from sports cars to vans and trucks, and yes a few two wheelers, but I have never enjoyed any one as much as I have the 87 Mc Laren. Unfortunately mine came late in life, so I haven't enjoyed it as long as most of you have. I also have a 07 Mustang GT Vert that is my midlife crisis car. I found the McLaren in Detroit and trailered it back to MO. It was in pretty bad shape and I have brought it back to life. I had to use a few Mods, but with the help of Hank I have just about to where I want it. The seats and door panels are being redone now and afterwords new paint. I just had my second spinal surgery and the Doc. told me that I could never turn a wrench again. I will prove him wrong. Now why have I said all this. Like another member said, for some reason the price of a Vet has risen, so have performance parts, they are almost like a Harley, a maintenance nightmare and that is from experience. They ride like a tank. Arrest me red or not, they are always locked on to VASCAR. Keep the McLaren, you will never regret it. ESP
