How to remove windshield molding

Can anyone give me any tips on how to remove my outer windshield molding.

It is cracked at the corners so I want to remove it and see if I can do any repairs to it. If I cannot, then I will probably purchase a new one but I would like to save the one I have if I can.

Any advice would be greatly appriciated.

I have been told that it's a nasty & difficult job, by more than just a few owners. It's really glue bonded on there.
Before you decide to "dig in" may I offer an alternative?
A Corvette specialist body shop has great expertise in working with fiberglass and plastic, too. I'd think that they could fill the crack(s) and finish the surface and repaint it ~ ON the car, w/out removal. At the least, cruise by one & get their opinion....

I agree...there are numerous putties out there for filling in cracks....no matter the material. Just sand smooth and repaint.

I have heard it is a total PITA as well and most have said there is glue holding them in place.

I also have what appears to be, circular "blisters" along the top of the molding. I looks like there is a round post poking through the finished surface. I have not "dug" into them yet to see what they are, does anyone have any idea.

From what it sounds like, removal is only an option if I plan on replacing the molding. I will try to repair inplace and if I learn anything, good or bad, I will post it to the site.

I'd love to know what you find. Mine isn't on straight. I have a thumb sized gap between the bottom of the trim and the top of the drivers's fender.

I took mine off recently. Be patient, use someting flat and wide (like a metal ruler but thicker) and sort of saw your way around the thing.

Don't get me wrong this job is not for the faint of heart, and be prepared for the worst- i.e. new windshield. I'm in good shape and I was sweating after this job.

I took mine off to get a new winshield installed after the car gets painted. In the mean time I've been thinking of having a new windshield moulding made from stainless steel (newer T-bird/Audi styling cue) like the photoshopped pics in my album show.
