Red Interior

[1985 Motorsport Capri]

anyone know if there were any 1985 Capri RS/5.0L made with Dark Red or Burgandy sport interior. i only thought tu-tone tan & tu tone gray (with red striping) was available in the cars built with the 5.0
anyone know for sure?

A page from the 1985 Upholstery book. Three colors were availiable in 1985-86 for the Sport interior. Grey, tan and red.

Obviously a late addition, as we can see that the swatch was sent to the dealer with a peel & stick backing to be inserted into the color & trim album. See the "R-2" printed in the corner? Stands for "Revised - February (the 2nd month).

I too did not know this. I have never seen one with Canyon Red interior. I HAVE seen Mustangs with theSport Seats in that red, but have no memory of seeing a CAPRI with such.

I will pull the book and look. Sometimes the printing underneath is there...

Its possible the swatch didn't make it to the publisher yet and is added after the fact. (I think I saw this in a 1981 book that was so water damaged that I pulled off all the swatches). Or maybe the exterior colors changed mid way through.

Another reason why you HARDLY see tan or red (or even blue on earlier cars) is because it is unpopular, fades badly and gets swapped out or painted for black or grey interior.

So to recap:

Sport Seats
1983 : Black, Medium Red, Academy Blue

1984 : Charcoal Grey, Canyon Red, Academy Blue, Desert Tan

1985 : Charcoal Grey, Canyon Red, Sand Beige

1986 : Same as 85.

In the early years, there are A LOT of fabric combinations that I have NEVER seen on any Capri....BUT flipping through things like accessory guides and other small brochures, they DO show up.

One in particular is the Vacquero (red) fabric (exactly the same as the 79 pace car fabric but in red) which was available back in 80-82. I have several accessory books with that fabric shown in a Capri. I cannot point you to a real life survivor.

Occasionally people ask if the Pace Car fabric was available in anything other than the 79 Mustang Pace Car. Everyone replies "YES" until I point out that it was available in the Capri for 3 years from 80-82.

Its just that certain interiors were unpopular, extremely low production and there are just no surviving examples left.

Blue is one of those. Of all the exteriors colors to choose from, blue doesn't go with much. Blue or white exterior but not much else. So who's going to order a blue interior with red or green exterior paint?

That reminds me of a friend in high school who had a plain Jane Mustang. I think that it was a 1979. The exterior was a dark red/maroon color, and the interior was plaid. Oh man, was it hideous. It haunts me to this day.

Here is a 1985 with a vin that says it's an original 5.0 car....

It has red interior.

I think the key to the red interior can be found in the fact that it's a late order and is a GS, not an RS.
