any info would be helpful, so far it seems to be one of seventeen in the color combo with a five speed for 86.

1986 Coupe Production

Post by Sandy »

1986 Coupe Production:--
115 Full Packaged + 47 EuroCoupe = 162 Fixed Roof Models

Raven Black = 42 F.P. + 22 E.C. = 64
Oxford White = 35 F.P. + 14 E.C. = 49
Smoke Charcoal Grey Metallic = 17 F.P. + 11 E.C. = 28
Midnight Navy Blue Metallic = 18 F.P. N.A. on E.C. = 18
Platinum Silver Metallic = 3 F.P. N.A. on E.C. = 03

I only have the # of Automatic Transmission Cars as
pertaining to the Full Packaged units, {115} and THAT
would be 9 units of the 115.

Breakout of the Automatic Transmission Units:-

03 Raven Black
03 Oxford White
01 Smoke Charcoal Grey Metallic (Sandy's Car)
02 Midnight Navy Blue Metallic
00 Platinum Silver Metallic
09 Total with 4-Speed Automatic AOD Transmission

Only the F.P. cars wore Dash Plaques, numbered 001 to 115.
The order of the Dash Plaques does NOT coincide
with the order of the VINS.

Options on the F.P. Cars:
Automatic Transmission (Installed on 09 F.P. Cars)
T-Top (Installed on 08 F.P. Cars)
Pop-Up Manual Sun Roof (Installed on 20 F.P. Cars)
Power Door Locks (Installed on 86 F.P. Cars)
Speed Control (Installed on 07 F.P. Cars)
3.08:1 Axle Ratio with 5-Speed (Unknown, but rare!)

Sandy do you know of the correllation of the placard #s and the transmissions installed? I am trying to authenticate a car I just agreed to buy and while I could care less if it is truly authentic I would love to know it is one of three!

I have no clue. If you think it might have been a 5-speed, pull up the rug and see if theres a hole where the clutch used to poke outta ! No hole? It's 1 of 3 IF IF IF IF it's a Full Packaged one & NOT a EuroCoupe !!

It is a full package, but is has been beaten badly. I bought it for @ $1400.00 because it is a rust free Capri and the ascMcLaren link was a bonus for me. The radar detector is gone but the radio is there. The seats were removed and replaced with a single racing unit. every piece of the ground effects is damaged in one way or another but all are repairable. A new in box front spoiler is included. The engine needs an overhaul but the AOD works great. It was originally white and repainted white (poorly) so the original stripes are gone. It has this dash placard:

From this angle it appears to be #038. It comes with the OEM wheels in need of restoration and a set of Centerlines. The bubble hatch is in good condition and it has both the original and a 1979 RS hood.

I will once I take delivery. It is in Ohio and I am in Michigan. I will be picking it up late January. The PO has owned it for two years and left me a message earlier today:
Oh yeah, they never installed the stripes on the car, it has the full set of stripes and stickers, the seats and interior are there but a little worn. I put a 2 1/4" Flowmaster setup on it right after I bought it and it is a little loose or something because it rattles a bit. You might want to bring an empty truck and trailer because there's a lot of stuff that goes with it.
I hope that is a good sign.

If it is a real gem worth restoring then I will do so, if it is NOT worth restoring (rust underneath, panels too far gone, fake) then I may just seperate the engine and install my Mark 8 DOHC engine in it and make it a mild driver and put the 5.0 in my TR7 (which is why I wanted it to start with)

It will be a month before I know this though.

Thanks Sandy, you are great!

So it is one of three... according to the numbers.

She is butt ugly and in need of a thorough renovation... I wonder how much can be done for free? We will see!
