Interesting find...

Post by Foxfleet »

Hey all, I recently responded to an ad on a local car club board regarding many 79-86 consoles, supposedly nice. I went to check them out, and I am quite dumbfounded by the whole thing. Not only did he have consoles, but he also had a cooler full of tie-rod ends, and a number of quarter windows from a hatch. I was mystified by this whole thing and hastily bought everything I could fit in my truck (wondering if paid too much now that I got these home and trying to find a spot for them).

The windows have Mercury Capri window stickers on them listing all of standard features on a Capri "At no extra charge."

The tie rod ends have surface rust on them, but otherwise nice.

Many of the consoles have dents in the lids from stuff laying on them, but all look to be new take-offs. The surrounds around the shifter and ashtray are black as night and perfect. Some have ashtrays, both styles (perfect), none have the info center. Some are dirty, some are clean, just depends on where they were sitting. I might go back for more, as there are a few blues ones as well.

There are more parts to be had, but many are not 79-86 parts, and many are not Ford, but it seems that these may have been new take-off parts from the McLaren verts. Can't be Saleens, since they used the stock console, and I thought about the zimmers, but they too use the stock console. The windows hint that the consoles may have come from the same car....likely a Capri soon to be vert. Any other cars that these may have come from?

Are any of them 1986 Capris ? If so, send me a few (3 or 4) of the last 6 digits of the VIN and I can tell IF they became 1986 Capri McLaren 'Verts !!

What are you planning to do with the consoles? Post some pics and find out what other Merc/Ford parts are to be had. Chuck

How many window stickers did you get?

I would be very interested in obtainign one.

What is the person's name and did he sell anything on ebay?

I picked up a NEW blue console pad for $50 from a guy on ebay who claims it was a take off part from when they were converting the ascMcLaren verts.

I wonder if these two guys are the same or know each other?

Unfortunately, there are no VINs, it's just a sticker telling the features of a Capri. That would be cool to have the take-off parts from my vert!!!

Some of the consoles have masking tape on them stating Car #22, 55 etc.

The guy I got them from is demolishing an old junk yard of sorts. He did not tell me where, or even what part of town. I honestly don't expect him to, as he knows that he has the only "in." I am of the impression that these were bought in bulk at some kind of auction, since they are mixed in with truly NOS parts. All the parts they have are in boxes new, or new take-offs.

I have asked him to take a camera and take pics of the wierd parts he is describing, but he has no camera and says that the attic that these things are in is extremely unsafe. Apparently has to walk along beams to get to stuff. There are a lot of misc items, but he can't get some of the heavier things down the ladder. He said there were a lot of seats, but they were junk (mice infested).

I don't know what I am going to do with all of these consoles. I kind of jumped the gun a little, just cause I thought it was so cool and thought I would get a line on more of these take-off parts, but he says there is absolutely no way to get some of this stuff due to holes in the floor and no lighting. I am thinking some will go on eBay. However, since I plan on owning every tan interior Capri I come across, I will probably keep 5-10. I know some people would just want the shifter surrounds, ashtrays, etc. Some may just want the arm rests (over half have dents in them). I am sure most wouldn't want to pay shipping on such a large piece. Not many people have tan cars either.....so many things to consider.

Mike, I doubt it's the same guy, since this guy just found all of these.

Here is the pic I forgot to add last night. I am not so sure these are worth all that much the more I look. eBay doesn't seem to fetch much for these.

No doubt - it's gotta be take offs from ascMcLaren. Those seats you spoke of are probably cloth stock 1985/86 Capri GS seats. The windows are probably front door glass. The consoles are the stock ones. It's odd that after 20 years this stuff surfaces. Somebody in that place had some ties to ascMcLaren. You may hit REAL gold, & come across HATCHES, complete with rear glass. Then, you could retire ! The seats that got ruined, aren't worth much to begin with. The door glass is worth something to 1984 - 1986 Mustang / Capri owners in need of door windows, BUT the hatches are like gold !

WOW!

What a neat find! $$$$

How many and what colors did you get? ? I believe you could make some money on eBay for them! I'd be interested in a gray one!

If you dug up new take off 86 Capri hatches, you'd be my hero! I need one bad!

Congratulations on a excellent find!

Unfortunately, there aren't any bubble hatches to be had. However, I did get an airdam of sorts. I can't make out what it is from, but it has both a Ford part # and ASC part #. Looks to be skinnier than Fox, what small cars was ASC building/making parts for back in the 80's?
