Optima Battery and Sears

Post by ASCMCLRN »

Yesterday after many weeks of research I went to Sears to get an Optima Battery for my McLaren. Optima does not sell batteries for earlier model Stangs but people are using a specific model for their cars that Automotive specialty stores are selling the 75/35 model with 710 crank amps. The manager would not let the worker sell it to me cause there was no application for my car. Claiming a 2billion dollar lawsuit of some sort and then recommends Sears Diehard Battery he said would be better and then turns out to have only 595 crank. I told him I understand its his job but I asked around did my homework and this is what I want. He refused to sell it to me and I told him he just lost a customer. Now if it would harm my care why are specialty stores selling them and all of these people recommending and using it? I am just upset that now I have to order one and wait a week. If I am wrong on this one I will take the flames. Thanks.

Thats retarded...what if you wanted tires? Would they not sell you a different size (or brand) tire because it wasn't factory equipment?

I find it weird they wouldn't sell you a battery. You should have just said it was for a tractor on your farm or something...lol

I don't know what the big deal is. That is the only battery I have used. They come with snap on adapter plate on the bottom so you can use your factory hold down. I never had a problem.

Sounds very silly on the part of the manager. Go back when he's not there and buy it from a different salesman. If he asks for the type of vehicle in which it is to be installed, just rattle off something appropriate. Fight the power.

Ford Battery

Post by svo413 »

I wanted a Motorcraft battery for my wife's 67 Tbird. The only place that I could find to sell them was the Ford dealer. I called the dealer and they told me they could not look up something that old as it was not on the computer. I had it narrowed down to 2 sizes but was unsure which one I needed. I told them they should learn how to use the Motorcraft website as that had a listing.

I got it from another dealer who said, I'll order it and you can pick it up at the end of the day. Maybe I'm expecting too much. After all, I have the 65-72 Ford parts catalog on hard copy and DVD as well as the the 80 Fords on microfich. Why wouldn't they have the same? They are the ones selling the parts!

When I bought my (then 7,023 miles) 1990 Silver Anniversary ascMcLaren it came from the 1st owner with an Optima battery in it. He had installed it as it sat in the New Hampshire Auto Museum all winter, ever winter. I distinctly recall asking him IF he liked that battery. I also recall getting NO reply. I bought the car as it is/was 100% perfect. Immediately I was having dead batteries. Worse, when I tried to jump it, It sparked badly. I finally got rid of the thing and put in a Ford Motorcraft battery and have never had a problem since. Remember, she gets very very little use, and still no dead batteries.
Get yourself the best Ford Motorcraft battery for it.
