Question on Center Caps

Post by plumkrazy »

1st
With ASC black mesh wheels with Orange writing on the centercap what color is the area around the words Blue or Black mine is worn off.

2nd If you have Anthracite wheels on say a 1986 Blk with silver stripes ASC what center caps would you use Orange and Blue?

And last are the front and rear load caps interchangeable?

There were no black mesh. They came in white, gold, orange & silver.
On #2 black background & silver lettering
#3 I am not sure of.

I do not think the front and rear caps are interchangeable.

The wheels are different. The older style (front load) are TYP-34F and they chaged the wheel to accomodate rear (inside) loading caps later on. IF the caps were interchangeable then I don't think the wheels would have had a change to them.

Then what did the Black wheels come on? They are listed on Hanks web site and I have a set. When I bought them they had ASC center caps.

Some black-mesh sets were indeed made by the supplier to ascMcLaren. However, they were never used on the 2,725 cars that they did. The mesh wheels came in Popsicle Orange, Gold, White, and in 1986 on the 5.0 'Verts they also had a (very) few in Paris Blue and ascMcLaren Red. Center caps were black with silver lettering, Black with Gold lettering and navy with orange lettering. The 2nd generation wheels (1989-1990) came in aluminum silver, totally white or aluminum silver with bright gold accented "pockets".

Sorry, I have no insight as to what they were thinking or planning. However, while nothing in writing, for "proof" ~ I did once hear that the Paris Blue & ascMcLaren mesh wheel car owners were complaining of some paint chipping (or flaking) off. Feeling at the time was the fronts due to heat from braking. What was done for those owners? No Clue. Were they replaced with Paris Blue and/or ascMcLaren Red ? Again no clue. (Or were they replaced with gold or silver (Anthracite) ? No clue.
